There is a strong resemblance between Gordle and Gordie Howe, a famous Canadian ice hockey player. It functions in the same way as Wordle, with the exception that each guess must be the five-letter surname of an active or retired NHL player.

In Gordle, you have anywhere from five to six chances to correctly guess the player's last name. If you type the correct letter, a green check mark will appear in the box. In the event that you enter the incorrect letter, the box will turn yellow. If the box turns gray, it indicates that your answer was incorrect.
Why is it such a challenge to accomplish? You can only guess the last names of hockey players if you know Gordle, which has five letters in it. This indicates that you cannot simply type in arbitrary terms in order to get closer. That is unfortunate, as it suggests that there is no good starting point to look for. Only you and what you know about hockey players from both the past and present can answer this question.
